What is Triglycerides ?
The Triglycerides test measures the level of triglycerides in the blood. Triglycerides are a type of fat (lipid) found in the blood and are used by the body for energy. However, elevated levels of triglycerides can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and other metabolic disorders. Clinicians may order a Triglycerides test to: Assess cardiovascular risk, as high triglyceride levels can contribute to the hardening and narrowing of arteries, leading to heart disease. Monitor patients with diabetes or metabolic syndrome, as elevated triglycerides are commonly associated with these conditions. Evaluate the effectiveness of lifestyle changes or treatments, such as changes in diet or the use of medications to lower triglycerides and prevent related complications.
