What is Gram's Stain ?
The Gram's Stain test is a widely used laboratory method to identify and classify bacteria based on their cell wall properties. This staining technique divides bacteria into two main groups: Gram-positive and Gram-negative, depending on their ability to retain a crystal violet dye during the staining process. This test is crucial for diagnosing bacterial infections and guiding appropriate treatment. It is commonly used for examining samples from body fluids, such as sputum, urine, or wound swabs, to detect infections like pneumonia, urinary tract infections (UTIs), or abscesses. Additionally, it helps determine the type of bacteria, enabling doctors to select the most effective antibiotics.
