What is Fasting Blood Sugar ?
The Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) test measures the level of glucose in the blood after a period of fasting, typically 8–12 hours. This test is a key diagnostic tool for detecting and monitoring diabetes and prediabetes, as well as for assessing how well blood sugar is being controlled. Clinicians often order an FBS test to: Diagnose diabetes and prediabetes, as elevated fasting glucose levels can indicate impaired glucose metabolism. Monitor blood sugar control in patients already diagnosed with diabetes. Assess risk factors for metabolic syndrome, especially in patients with high blood pressure, obesity, or family history of diabetes.
