Physiological basis
The Absolute Eosinophil Count (AEC) is a measure of the number of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell, in a given volume of blood. The Absolute Eosinophil Count (AEC) is calculated by multiplying the percentage of eosinophils in the total white blood cell count by the total white blood cell count.
Interpretation
Elevated AEC | Low AEC |
Allergic Reactions Parasitic Infections Autoimmune Diseases Eosinophilia |
Acute Infections Adrenal Insufficiency |
Comments
The AEC is typically assessed as part of a complete blood count (CBC) with a differential. If your AEC is outside the normal range, it's important to consult with a healthcare provider to determine the underlying cause and appropriate treatment.
